On 9th June 2010 a public meeting was held in the Otatara Community Centre with four very interesting talks – scientist Ralph Powlesland talked about the DoC Kereru and Tui research project, highlighting the impact of predators on these birds. Local photographer Jason Hosking showed photography from two tui nests which he followed the progress of. Brian Rance talked about the Bushy Point pest control work and Tim Riding from Environment Southland talked about the effects of various pests and how to control them.
The evening was a huge success with over 80 people attending and over 30 signing up wanting to control pests on their own properties. The meeting was co-ordinated by the Otatara Landcare Group.
